What does a URL shortener do?

If you've ever visited or used a website where the length of your posts are limited (ie, Twitter), then it is likely you've seen a shortened URL.

A URL shortener take the URL you insert into the input box and stores it in a database. It then gives you a different, shorter URL that links straight back to the page you requested. Think of it as a gateway to your link but using less characters.

How do I shorten my URL?

To shorten your URL follow these simple steps:

1. Copy the URL of a website whose URL you'd like to shorten
   [Hint: it's that http:// thing at the top of your browser]
2. Paste your URL into the input box in the middle of the screen
   [To get back to the homepage just click the logo above]
3. Press [Enter] on your keyboard

That is all there is to it. You will be redirected to your shortened URL at which time you have the option to copy that new link to use elsewhere.

How long will you store my shortened URL?

As long as the page that you linked to exists, we will keep your URL in our database. If the page you linked to goes missing, there's no point in keeping the shortened URL alive.
